About meAmy Stewart lives in Eureka, California, with her husband Scott Brown. They own an antiquarian bookstore called Eureka Books and tend a flock of unruly hens in their backyard.

Stewart's essays and commentaries have appeared in the New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Garden Design, Organic Gardening, and elsewhere. She's been featured on NPR, Good Morning America and CBS Sunday Morning. The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) granted her a Creative Writing Fellowship for 2006.

She is the author of four books on the perils and pleasures of the natural world.

Amy travels the country talking to groups at garden clubs, botanical gardens, libraries, and bookstores. She also does virtual visits via webcam or videoconference. Go here for more information:

A book about earthworms! Perfect for my dad for Father's Day. He is extremely hard to please with gifts. The best I have ever done is ladybugs for his garden. Hopefully, this will top the ladybugs. I saw your interview on the Amazon blog the other day. Congratulations!

I will be glad to accept you as my friend. It has been very dry here in Northern Indiana(no rain this summer).I water just enough to keep my flowers from dying.

I must tell you that in the fall of 1997. I was in Santa Cruz we just stopped for a short break at the beach on our way to Livermore. When you wrote about the amusment park in your book I realized that it was just possible that I was near the home that you had bought.It makes reading so much more interesting when a person can relate to the surroundings. I also garden and enjoyed [From the Ground Up]. Do you still have time to garden with all the writting you do?
