About meI'm a sometimes grumpy, writerly, licensed middle-aged curmudgeon with profoundly iconoclastic tendencies. I survived Brown University and a stint as a reporter for a daily newspaper. Currently I sit at home at my computer, cackling as I pounce on daily news items at which I can cheerfully snarl on one of my blogs, grumpylion.wordpress.com. I'm a thoroughly well-rounded codger-in-waiting, smattered (barely) with Latin and Greek, utterly surrounded by books, and possessed by five cats. A good fellow to read, but not one to bring home to meet mother.
I play backgammon, collect books, write sometimes amusing things, and occasionally demonstrate some smarts, but not about anything practical.
Visit me at grumpylion, grumpytiger, and grumpypanther too, and for a goof, todayshoroscope, all at wordpress.com.
About my libraryI am ten years behind in my reading. I tend to buy hardcover first editions of books that I like for any number of reasons - the cover (all durafold wrapped), the subject, the author, or because I'm compulsive about sets (Evans on the Reich, Hollander and Durling on the Divine Comedy).
I'll never read them all, but often I'll take one off the shelf, leaf through it, smell it, touch it, wonder at it, then put it back. That's not enough, but it keeps me sane.
