This book is packed with significant analysis and explanations of the monastic culture even though the author says that the work involves “simplifications and broad generalizations....” OK, I will read the first 25 pages again to see where those might be. I remember when we studied this book during an MA on Spirituality it was pointed out to us that the title actually sums up monastic life - the love of learning and the desire for God. It's a text book, not a thrilling read, but it's a good one. no reviews | add a review
