Powers: Who Killed Retro Girl by Brian Michael Bendis
Watchmen by Alan Moore ... Moore to feature in most people's top 5 in one form or another. As for me, I was introduced to the world of comics through Watchmen and I recommend that as a number one must buy... anyway, here are my top 5 "beginner" graphic novels, and don't forget that there are comics to suit pretty much ... It really does depend on what your tastes are. But a shortlist of "classics" tend to include stuff like:
Watchmen by Alan Moore
The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller
Understanding Comics by Scott McCloud
Maus by Art Spiegelman
This, of course, if you are looking for graphic ... ... (damn popularity contest again) - which surprised me a little when I saw it.
Presumably the same thing happened for Watchmen (which seems to pick up the French title in the touchstone) where people who have been used to seeing Dave Gibbons now see Alan Moore but at least in that ... Yeah, and Watchmen united!
Graphic novel obscurity numbers should climb a bit now. :) ... less than when I first wishlisted it. It was in my shopping cart, and now (hopefully) it's on its way. Ever since I read Watchmen, I've been completely hooked on Alan Moore. Watchmen by Alan Moore
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll
Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy
Ulysses by James Joyce
Journey to the End of the Night by Louis-Ferdinand Celine
Honorable Mentions: 1984 by George Orwell and Aurelia by Gerard ... After much deliberation, here are my top 5 books of 2006:
5. Watchmen, by Alan Moore
4. The Emperor's Children, by Claire Messud
3. A Game of Thrones, by George R.R. Martin
2. The Tender Bar, by J.R. Moehringer
1. The Kite Runner, by Khaled Hosseini ... Graphic Novels/Collected TPBs are, in this order:
Crisis on Infinite Earths by Marv Wolfman/George Perez
Watchmen by Alan Moore/Dave Gibbons
Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller/Klaus Janson/Lynn Varley
... to harp on about him too much, as I think he gets enough fanboy press as it is... particular highlights of his, for me, are Watchmen (of course), Promethea - loved that series of graphic novels, though it really was quite "out there", but a lot of fun, and educational (but not as dull as that ... ... fan, heh. His Marvel 1602 was an interesting take on the Marvel Universe.
I also really like Alan Moore's stuff - Watchmen in particular.
I tend to prefer the more literary graphic novels like Miller's Sin City and such, but everyonce in awhile I have to go back to my old comic ... After the complete disaster that was the film of V for Vendetta, I think that Watchmen should *never* be made into a film lest it suffers a similar state. (Really. I cannot emphasise how utterly *awful* the V movie was.) Zach Snyder is making a film of Watchmen at the moment; it seems to me that this graphic novel would be better suited as an HBO series. Also, I would hate to be in his place- he's stuck between the studio execs who want to make it an action flick and the Moore fans who may declare jihad on him if ... Tane: if you like Fables and Watchmen, you've got to check out Gaiman's Sandman books. Things don't really get in gear until volume 2, A Doll's House, but after that it's unbeatable.
... I'm kinda new to the world of comics - a friend of mine introduced me through two books... Crisis On Infinite Earths and Watchmen... Crisis was interesting, but probably a much better read if you knew the characters before hand, whilst Watchmen is understandably a classic (though I must ... Seem we prefer Watchmen by Dave Gibbons as compared to Watchmen by Alan Moore on that front. :)
