Congrats on reaching 75! I'm due to read The Help next for my local book club, so I'm glad to hear that you liked it. See you 2010!

>101 Stasia, I think my enjoyment of The Help was enhanced by listening to it in such close proximity to Their Eyes Were Watching God. I'd move it up if I were you. >102 Bonnie, that's interesting because one of the things that impressed me about the book was how protective a few of the ...

I've got The Help coming up for my RL book club in February. I have relatives in the South who will also say that their Black "help" is just like family, so I'm very interested to read the book.

... next years challenge so we don't miss it. Happy reading a have a great vacation in PR, I'm so jealous! Outlander and The Help are very different books, but each very good and easy enough reads for vacation books. You know, the kind that don't take intense concentration to follow.

I'm glad you enjoyed Leviathan and Just Listen; both are by very talented YA authors, so yay! And The Help and Outlander are definitely going with me to Puerto Rico in January. Looking forward to discussing books with you next year as well!

I've heard about Knots and Crosses -- I will have to add it to my list. I loved The Help -- I read it in the middle of my semester, ignoring all school work because I couldn't put it down. I've also had Outlander in my pile for awhile. Maybe I'll move it up!

I'm reading The Help and I'm 2 1/2 chapters in and so far...I LOVE IT!

The Help by Kathryn Stockett

67. The Help by Kathryn Stockett I know there is lots of love surrounding this book and it is worthy of all of it. What an engrossing, heart wrenching book. For those unfamiliar with it, it is about black "help" and their white employers, in Mississippi in the early 1960's. I was truly ...

I guess this is book 5 of the year: The Help by Kathryn Stockett One in a line of Southern novels featuring "spunky" women....in this case, two black maids and a white college girl, returned home with "no prospects" (i. e. without a husband in sight). What sets this story apart from the ...

Great choices for both your #50's. I'll have to go back and look to see what I chose. Louanne, I think The Help had the most overlapping recommendations when I alphabetized everybody's Top Tens of 2009. It was one of the few hardbound books that I bought this year, though I did wait until I ...
